Easter 2011

Today was fun! We all matched wearing blue and yellow.  The Easter bunny came while we were at church and the kids had a blast finding the eggs.  Later that afternoon Brett and Marsha Bowen joined us for dinner along with Mom and Dad.  While dinner was baking the kids watched the Living Scripture video "He is Risen".  For dinner we had ham, cheesy potatoes, deviled eggs, strawberry feta salad, and a white chocolate raspberry torte, and I can't forget to mention CANDY!

Easter Weekend 2011

Thursday night or early Friday morning, whichever you want to call 3:30 in the morning, I woke up to Emily standing at the side of my bed telling me she felt sick.  I told her to climb in to the bed thinking that this was just her excuse for wanting to be in my room.  After she was in our bed for about 20 minutes and rolling around during that time I told her that if she needed to throw up, to sit up and throw up over me or Mike so it wouldn't be all over our bed.  I know it sounds gross, but steam cleaning the floor would at least be easier than stripping a bed.  Well, after I told her that I kid you not 10 minutes later I hear her throwing up...on Mike.  Mike and I both hopped out of bed and helped Emily.  I cleaned her up and changed her while Mike cleaned himself up and stripped the bed....I know I know still had to do the bed.  Anyway, after I cleaned Emily up Ruby woke up so I had to nurse her and put her back to bed.  Mike made a bed for Emily on our floor and he was such a good Daddy and hopped out of bed 3 more times that night/morning until it was time to get up.  Mordecai seemed fine Friday day.  He watched cartoons, had lunch, helped me do the 10 plus loads of laundry and then took a nap.  Emily on the other hand slept all day on an air mattress in the family room with bouts of throw up here and there.

Finally Mike got home at 5:15 and I told him about my day.  He being a great Daddy/Husband went to pick up Carl's Jr. for dinner since there was no way I was making dinner.  Mind you this was after me telling him I didn't think Mordecai was going to get sick because he was acting fine all day.  I was wrong, because Mike wasn't even gone 5 minutes when I hear Mordecai do this deep sounding burp that he does just before he throws up, I have lots of experience with Mordecai's sounds because of his lovely gag reflex, and launches all over the couch and himself multiple times.  I am steam cleaning up from Mordecai when Mike gets back and asks if Mordecai was sick?  Uh? Are you kidding me??  Well, thinking back I guess he had the right to ask since Mordecai looked and acted okay until that night.  Later that night he would say, "I'm sick!"  Then he would do a courtesy cough and then that deep burp and then throw up in the bowl.  Mike and i didn't know if he was just making himself throw up or if he was really sick or not.

Later that night Mike and I decided we would all just camp out in the family room, that way we didn't have to run from room to room in the middle of the night.  We decided to watch "Tron" and boy that was the longest movie ever.  I think it took us 3 hours to watch it.  Emily last threw up at about 7:00 that night.  Poor girl she had the worst of it.  Mordecai seemed to get it out of his system in a matter of 4-5 hours.  I think it was because he kept asking for Sprite or water that helped aid it in coming up easier, as opposed to Emily who dry heaved for a good 6 hours.

The next morning Mike and I did a major disinfecting of the house since my parents were coming in that night and never mind the fact that he nor I wanted to get the sickness.  I was pretty sure I was going to get it since I was dealing with it all day, but luckily enough we didn't get it.

Today Emily and Mordecai slept a good portion of the day.  We also took our comforter to a Laundromat so we could clean it (because it is a king size), and then came home and dyed eggs for Easter.  Poor kids, it is never fun to watch them be so miserable.

Growing BIG & Funny

Mordecai must be growing or something because this happened before noon yesterday while Mike and I were outside doing yard work.
Then today at Church Mike couldn't get him to go to nursery so he sat next to me during Sunday School. During class Ruby needed her diaper changed so I left Mordecai in the room because Mike is the Gospel Doctrine teacher, and I knew he would be okay.  Well, when I came back I saw Mordecai bent over at the waist laying his head down on the chairs. I sat down and rubbed Mordecai's back to let him know I was back and he didn't move.  I looked over and saw that he was asleep. I passed Ruby off to Brett Bowen and put Mordecai down on the row of chairs. Mike carried him to priesthood and said that he slept the whole third hour too. Totally silly boy.

-Funny-

About two weeks ago I took the kids to Emily's follow up eye appointment.  At one point in the visit they were checking the vision in her bad eye.  The letters on the screen were something like, "G, E, M...' and they were getting smaller and more difficult for her to see.  Emily said the 'G' was and 'O' and just as she was moving on to the next letter Mordecai pipes up and says, "You were wrong Emily it was a 'G'."  After a giggle I told him he needed to be quiet because this was Emily's visit.  Well, then they moved over to checking her good eye and the letters on the screen were 'L, P, M,...', and they too were getting harder to see.  She got the 'L' right, but was having a harder time seeing the 'P' and was trying to focus on it before saying the letter.  As she was really straining to see the letter Mordecai whispers to her, "It's a 'P' Emily."  Little goof.  He has really been funny lately.

SandBox Fun

Spring has finally come to Denver, along with some crazy winds. We spent the day doing some yard work and then put up a sandbox for the kids. I power raked the front and back lawns with the rider and then mowed up the dead thatch. Mike hand raked under the tree in our front yard. It was amazing to see how much stuff came up. I think we could probably get a ton more thatch up if we hand raked, but that isn't about to happen since our yards our big. We wanted to pull out the blower and blow out all the dead leaves under our bushes and gardens, but time ran out so we will have to do that next weekend before we dye Easter eggs.

The kids have been dying for a sandbox again. The sand in our old sandbox, the plastic pool that we had for two summers and started to crack from the weather, is sitting in a bucket and every time the kids went outside they ended up playing in it. Finally last week Mike and I took the kids to Costco to buy the sandbox. It has a UV canopy plus all around seating, to bucket/tub things, two storage compartments and a mesh cover to keep the pets and weather out. Before Mike could fill it with sand completely Mordecai was already in it. They played in it for a good two and half hours until I made them come in for baths and dinner. I think this will help my sanity this summer.

2 Month Visit

I took Ruby to Dr. Miller for her 2 month well baby check today. She continues to be our runt of the family, even though she weighed more than Emily at birth. Just as Dr. Miller came in I finished nursing Ruby and she started to spit up a ton but no fussing. Dr. Miller took one look at her and said, "Wow! You really are a reflux baby." (Dr. Jordan was the pediatrician we saw for the reflux medicine prescription). Him saying that made me feel like he agreed with my thoughts about her needing the Prevacid especially since he is our regular Doctor. Her check-up went well and he commented on how well her head control is for just being a 2 month old. I didn't tell him it is all due to her sleeping on her tummy, because since she has reflux issues I don't want to put her on her tummy for tummy time just to have her spit up everything in her tummy. Plus I have also read that some babies who have reflux should sleep on their stomachs to ease the burning. Anyway back to the appointment.  She got 3 shots and one oral vaccine. She wasn't happy about the shots, but Mordecai was so glad it was her and not him this time. The past two nights she has been sleeping 6 hour stretches at night, which is awesome. Now only if we could get Mordecai to quit talking so loudly in his sleep. :-)

Stats:

Kid Funnies

I need to write a few funnies down.

MORDECAI
The other day Mordecai wanted to go to Rumbi to get "orange fries". When he was done eating he stood on the bench and said, "I'm going to jump!" I told him to go ahead so he would learn he would get hurt. Well, he thought about it and said, "I'm not going to jump, if I jump I get hurt and broke my leg."

Mordecai has been fascinated with the battery covers on the back of remotes. Well, after telling him and telling him to leave them alone, he finally broke one.  I put him in time out and when Mike got home I told him what happened. When Mike was changing his diaper later that night he said, "Mordecai, this makes me want to break your legs."  Mordecai then said, "Don't break my legs, then I wont be able to walk."

EMILY
Emily was doing this work book with Grandma Rogers and Grandma asked her, "If you are not ugly you are...?" The answer was pretty, but Emily answered with "Naked"

Ruby's Blessing

Ruby had her special day today. Mike gave her a wonderful blessing (hope to get it soon from Momma).  In the circle was Mike, Papa John, Daddy, Corey Grip, Kris Reed, Tevita Halatokoua, Jon Burton, Rob Larsen, and Brett Bowen. My Mom made her dress and bonnet, crazy detail and way time consuming but glad she did it. Also we had Dave and Karen Hamblin here with us.  They are like another set of Grandparents even though they are my brother in-laws parents.

Felicia got here Thursday morning and we headed to the eye doctor for Emily and then the Pearl Street mall for some kinder chocolate. Friday night Mike's parent's flight was supposed to arrive about 6:30 pm, but there was mechanical problems so the flight was delayed twice until finally being canceled. My Mom and Dad got here late Friday night, like at 11:00pm, and Mom and Dad Rogers finally got her Saturday morning at 8:05 pm.  We had a lot of fun just eating, and hanging out.
