Colorado Springs Day 3

Last night was HORRIBLE! The kids went to bed well they just didn't sleep well. Ivy woke up as we were going to bed and when I went in to shush her she laid back down and went to sleep. She did that 5 more times within an hour period when I decided to take her back to bed with me. I was so tired at that point I just wanted sleep. I think she was waking up because she was sleeping with Ruby and Ruby kept rubbing/touching her. After she was in our bed she rolled around for a while needing water and talking and playing.

It was another cold day with the high only getting to 70 degrees at 5:00 p.m. We did a drive through the Garden of the Gods as we drove to the Manitou Cliff Dwellings. We saw some deer and stopped for pictures with the balancing rock that was super busy on Monday.

The Manitou Cliff Dwellings were a hit. The kids enjoyed climbing in and out of the cliff homes and Mike and I liked doing it too. It's fun for me, as an adult, to look at those types of places and think of how it would have been to live back in that time...and how neat it was that they could make those things with limited tools and knowledge we have in our days.

From the Cliff dwellings we headed back to the hotel for lunch and a nap for Ivy, and maybe a 10 minute nap for Mom 😃.

Once Ivy got up we headed to play some mini golf with the kids. We played two rounds which were pretty painful to start out. Ruby has a hard time with things when they don't go the way she expects them to go. When she couldn't get the golf ball up a ramp or in the hole she would cry and say things like, "this ball is dumb" or "I hate mini golfing!" And most the time towards the beginning if the game she would throw her golf club. I would lie if I didn't say there were flashbacks of the movie 'Happy Gilmore'.

From golfing it was back to the hotel for dinner, tater tot casserole, and then baths.

Tomorrow we head back home and wait for Keith and Kim and their girls to get in.

Here's hoping tonight is better in the sleeping department.

Colorado Springs Day 2

It cooled off quite a bit last night!

The kids all slept fairly well. Ivy woke up at about 1:30, but I think that might have been because she rolled out of bed because when I went to get her she was standing in the middle of the room. Mordecai and Emily are sleeping in the second bedroom and Ruby and Ivy sleep on the couch bed in the living area.

This morning we ate breakfast and then packed up to go to the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, but we first had to stop at Wal-Mart to buy jeans for everyone. We checked the forecast before we packed for the trip and today's weather was supposed to be 78 degrees so we didn't pack pants or long sleeves. However, between Monday morning and last night it changed and the high was only supposed to be 70 degrees and not until 3:00 in the afternoon. Our first trip to Wal-mart we just got jeans but then once we got up into the mountain for the zoo we quickly realized the kids wouldn't make it very long because of how cold and windy it was (52 degrees) so we headed back to Wal-mart to buy long sleeves/jackets. I scored and found the last long sleeve t-shirt for me, and clearance shirts for the girls. I couldn't find anything for Mordecai so I bought the smallest men's jacket I could (medium) and he wore that.

The zoo, once we finally got there, was fun. It had a ton of uphill walking for the first half but once we got done with the second half it completed a whole circle ending us at the entrance. The coolest part for me was at the beginning where you can feed the giraffes. Emily loved it all and so did Ivy. Ruby liked it, if it wasn't smelly, but walked around with her hand over her nose for the most part of the zoo. Guess she has her Mom's sense of smell and it's probably safe to say she won't have a career working with animals. Mordecai was fine when we were seeing the animals but he complained about the walking...sorry kiddo.

After we left we grabbed a late lunch at Chipotle and then hung out at the hotel. The older 2 played their DS's and the younger 2 played with Mike and I. We ate dinner and then Mike and I decided the kids needed out so we went to a local Chik-fil-a to let them play. As we were getting ready to leave a little girl about Ruby's age was trying to be friends with her. Ruby wasn't having it, or understanding that so she said something to the little girl about going back to our hotel. The girl asked why and Ruby said, "cause I'm tired and want to go back to our hotel to go to sleep." The little girl hearing the word hotel said something about them staying in one too and I think Ruby thought the little girl was wanting to come back with us or something so Ruby got feisty and defensive and said with her hand over her mouth like telling a secret to Mike and I, "this girls crazy!" The little girl kept talking, clearly not sensing how annoyed Ruby was getting, and finally Ruby said with her hands on her hips, "well, I'm gonna be bigger tomorrow and I'm going to beat you at zombies". Thanks Grandma!!! Lol! Finally after me dying of laughter Mike and I were able to get the kids out of there and back to the hotel where they are all sound asleep.

Tomorrow, the Manitou cliff dwellings and most likely mini golfing.
