The Rest of July

I signed Emily and I up to run a 5k bubble run. Mine and Marci joined us and it was really fun. The weeks prior Emily and I went on a couple of runs together. She talked the whole time, and twirls and runs backwards all while I'm just trying to breath. Haha. We plan on doing more runs together.

Later in July the kids and I drove up to Rock Springs, Wy to visit Felicia and her family but also to see Wanda and Rachel since they were driving through to pick Joseph up from BYU-I. It was a fun visit and makes me ache for family to be close again.

Last, but not least I graduated from the pathway program this month. I'm so glad I did it! I made some very good life long friends and I'm furthering my education.

Camping With the Grips

So we went camping with the our friends the Grips from July 6th to July 9th. We drove about 5 hours away to Ridgway State Park and camped in Yurts. As we were driving there Emily started complaining of her ears. Once we got there Mike took her to an urgent care and we found out she had an ear infection. They got her on some antibiotics and she seemed fine. While they were are urgent care I unloaded our stuff into the yurt and fed the other kids some dinner.

The next day was Tuesday and we did a little hike and then got caught in a rain storm. It was nice to have the yurts to keep us warm and dry. When there was a lull in the storm our family drove into Montrose and hit Target for some games the kids could play just in case we got rained in again. That night we had dinner that the Grips prepared and then put kids to bed. Once they were asleep the adults sat around the fire and visited.

Wednesday it looked gloomy and cold but we decided to do the Ouray Hot Springs anyway. It was beautifully nestled in between some mountains that made us feel like we were in the Swiss Alps. The kids had fun and I enjoyed the hottest of the hot. Once we left there we went back to the camp so our family could prepare dinner and then the usual night routine of bedtime for the kids and visiting for the adults.

Thursday we packed up and headed home since I had to get to class that night. We sure had fun and can't wait to do it again.

Rogers Family Reunion August 2014

We had our Rogers family reunion August 7-12th. We rented a "unique" house in Holladay where we all stayed. The cousins had fun playing together from early morning until late into the evening. Ivy was a pill most days. At first we thought it was because it was a new place and tons of new people. Then we thought it was because her schedule was off, but then we realized it was and is because she is teething some major molars. Once we figured that out, not until our reunion was almost over, we doped her up on meds and she was much better to deal with...not normal, but easier.

We enjoyed swimming, family pictures, hanging out after church at Grandma and Grandpas house for a talent show FHE, the guys did some bowling and the girls had lunch and a book club/favorite things exchange. It's always sad to leave because we have so much fun.

Colorado Springs Day 3

Last night was HORRIBLE! The kids went to bed well they just didn't sleep well. Ivy woke up as we were going to bed and when I went in to shush her she laid back down and went to sleep. She did that 5 more times within an hour period when I decided to take her back to bed with me. I was so tired at that point I just wanted sleep. I think she was waking up because she was sleeping with Ruby and Ruby kept rubbing/touching her. After she was in our bed she rolled around for a while needing water and talking and playing.

It was another cold day with the high only getting to 70 degrees at 5:00 p.m. We did a drive through the Garden of the Gods as we drove to the Manitou Cliff Dwellings. We saw some deer and stopped for pictures with the balancing rock that was super busy on Monday.

The Manitou Cliff Dwellings were a hit. The kids enjoyed climbing in and out of the cliff homes and Mike and I liked doing it too. It's fun for me, as an adult, to look at those types of places and think of how it would have been to live back in that time...and how neat it was that they could make those things with limited tools and knowledge we have in our days.

From the Cliff dwellings we headed back to the hotel for lunch and a nap for Ivy, and maybe a 10 minute nap for Mom 😃.

Once Ivy got up we headed to play some mini golf with the kids. We played two rounds which were pretty painful to start out. Ruby has a hard time with things when they don't go the way she expects them to go. When she couldn't get the golf ball up a ramp or in the hole she would cry and say things like, "this ball is dumb" or "I hate mini golfing!" And most the time towards the beginning if the game she would throw her golf club. I would lie if I didn't say there were flashbacks of the movie 'Happy Gilmore'.

From golfing it was back to the hotel for dinner, tater tot casserole, and then baths.

Tomorrow we head back home and wait for Keith and Kim and their girls to get in.

Here's hoping tonight is better in the sleeping department.
