First Comes Love

Monday, the kids and I met up with some friends for lunch. One friend (Mandie) has a son that is 6. Emily thinks he is just the coolest, and always wants to hang out with him. As we were leaving she wanted to give Hayden a hug good-bye, but Hayden being in this stage where girls are gross didn't want to. Well, today as the kids and I were heading out to meet a friend for lunch Emily expressed her concern about how Hayden doesn't like her anymore. I told her that Hayden is just in this stage where girls are icky, and that he will grow out of it. Emily responded with, "NO, Mom! When I was helping Johnathon's (Badal) family move Hayden told me he didn't like me anymore, because he met this new girl named Jonnie and he fell in love with her. Now I don't know who I am going to marry, cause Hayden was the only boy I liked." All I could do was laugh. Where does my child get this stuff from? So I called Mike to tell her what she said, and while I am relaying to him the conversation to him I hear her call me a "Traitor". This girl is funny! We better watch out for when she is a teenager. :-)

Moving to Alaska

So I need to write these stories down before I forget them. Yesterday started out pretty good. The AMC here has $1 movies at the 10 am showing. Granted they are older movies, but the kids love them. They also love the fact that they get a kid concession, which is half price. It comes with a kid size popcorn, drink, and a fruit snack. Anyway, we went and the kids were great. Afterwards we hit Target for some much needed things, and then home for lunch. After lunch I decided that I needed to clean up the house a bit so I started with the main level bathroom. From there I headed upstairs to clean the other bathrooms. While I was up there I heard the kids, downstairs, running the water in the bathroom. I yelled down the stairs to them, to get out of the bathroom. I figured that Emily was washing her hands or getting a drink or something. A minute later Emily is upstairs with me, in her bathroom and naked from the waist down, trying to get her bath toys out of the bathroom. Immediately I knew something bad was happening, but decided that I needed to finish scrubbing their toilet. As I was walking down the stairs I hear Mordecai crying, and saying he is cold. When I got into the bathroom Mordecai was sitting on the sink with his clothes soaked, and water filled to the brim of the sink. There was water all over the rugs, toilet and counter, and it was spilling under the sink because the water couldn't drain fast enough. Needless to say I was furious because I had just cleaned that bathroom. I took them out of the bathroom and while I was cleaning it up they both went upstairs to the guest room. While in the guest room Mordecai pulled a plant off the shelf so their was soil everywhere, and Emily dumped a whole can of Gerber fruit puffs all over the bed. That was when I started yelling. I had had it. Mike got home about a half an hour later. When he got home he talked to the kids about why they had been acting up, and that when you are bad you don't get special privileges like they had that morning. Emily, knowing she had done something bad said, "I am just going to pack my things and move to Alaska and find other parents." I told her that nobody would want to be her parents if she acted this way with them. She then started to cry and told us that she didn't want to move to Alaska. It was funny, but so sad. We of course told her that we didn't want her to move to Alaska, and that we would be sad if she left because we love her. Mike and I don't know where she comes up with these things!

Fathers Day 2010

Last night was a bad night. Mordecai was up almost all night from being HOT & SWEATY. Mike and I tried to take naps here and there this morning but that wasn't happening because of our still sick little boy and very independent and needy daughter. It wasn't our typical Sunday, or Fathers Day. We ate cereal for breakfast and the kids watched regular t.v., when we usually only watch church videos on Sunday, and we were just lazy. The kids gave Mike their Fathers Day card, which played "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun". I thought it was funny that after Mike read it, Emily took the card and now has it in her room. She loves that song! The kids gave Mike a computer for his road bike. I gave Mike a $25 gift card to Sports Authority to buy some more bike necessitates/wants. After presents we decided that Mordecai was feeling well enough for us to attend Sacrament so we could partake of the Sacrament, but also so Emily could sing to Mike, and so I could lead the primary one last time. (They released me last week :/) The kids sang, "My Dad" and then gave them salt water taffy shish-kabob skewers. At the end of Sacrament Mordecai started to get feverish again so we came home, after Emily handed out the rest of the Fathers Day treats. We had hamburgers, frog eye salad, corn on the cob, and rice krispy treats for Mikes Fathers Day dinner. Mordecai is still feverish, so Mike just gave him a blessing. Hopefully we can get some sleep tonight. Doubtful....

One funny story. Since we watched the movie "The Tooth Fairy" last night Emily decided to be the tooth fairy. Mike, Mordecai, and I all woke up to money under our pillows this morning. She pulled coins out of her piggy banks and distributed them before bed on Saturday night. We found them because in the middle of the night Mordecai came in with his pillow, and when we went to put it back there was money where his pillow goes. Then in making our bed we found money there too. It was funny.

6 Blissful Years

Today we celebrated 6 years. Time files by so fast, and yet it seems like just yesterday we were dating and getting engaged, let alone married. We started off this morning with family pictures taken at Chautauqua Park in Boulder. I guess it is only fitting that we took them there because that was one of our dates we did with Keith and Kim before we got married. Merideth Hickman Dunning took our photos and I think they are going to turn out great. The weather was perfect, not to hot and sunny.

After pictures we headed home to clean up a bit and then I headed out to pick up Mike's Fathers Day gift. Mordecai took a nap really early, and then woke up fine, even though I suspected something was wrong. We packed the kids up and headed to Lowes to buy some finished wood when Mordecai spiked a fever. So instead of going out tonight we are staying in and watching, "The Tooth Fairy", and "Leap Year". Hopefully Emily doesn't pick up whatever Mordecai has. For now, I think we all might be staying home from Church tomorrow.

blah, blah, blah

Life has been pretty boring around here. Not that we don't do anything, it is just we have nothing to report. Here are some random pictures. Emily and I had a photo shoot. Mike was working in the yard last week and found a frog. We expect to see a fox or two along with coyotes, and sometimes ducks...but a frog? Where would a frog come from? The last is 2 videos of Mordecai saying he wants milk. He growls at us all the time. The videos are sort of like it is in real life. Enjoy.

♫Sun Kissed Skin....♫

Man my kids have the best skin tone ever!!! After one day of being out in the sun from 10:00-2:15 they both have nice tans already. Mordecai's you have to look where the diaper is folded down. I took the kids to "The Bay" today. I had never been because I figure we already pay for our pool why go to another one where I have to pay again? WRONG, we will be going back. The kids loved the slide, well Emily did, and they loved being able to walk in the foot and a half of water and just play. I enjoyed the other moms we went with and just chatting. Good times.

"Bull Races"

I don't know why he was doing this, but he was. It was hilarious...as you can tell from my laughing. When he first started it he would start at my bed and would run with this look of determination on his face, then he would head butt the closet door with full force. Funny.

Memorial Day

So our Memorial Day weekend was FABULOUS. Friday morning we did some errands, then we came home and Mike and I started on painting the dinning room (pictures to come). About 4:00, the time I start thinking about what to make for dinner, Mike and I decided we were going to go on a last minute date pending we found a babysitter. We did, and the kids loved her. Mike and I hit Cinebarre and loved it. Usually when date night comes we choose either a movie or dinner, because I am cheap and don't want to pay for a sitter longer than we have to. This was perfect though because we had dinner and a movie at the same time. Iron Man 2 was good, even though I couldn't and still can't remember what happened in the first one. When we got home both kids were zonked on the couch, and the babysitter told us that right before Mordecai fell asleep he was crying for his daddy and very sad...so Emily being the wonderful big sister she is sang him songs, rubbed him and got him toys to comfort him until he fell asleep.

Saturday was super busy. It was the first day the pool was open, so once Mike got home from his early morning bike ride we hit the pool. We were there for about 2.5 hours. Both kids loved the pool and Mordecai had a wonderful afternoon nap, which he doesn't seem to take anymore. After lunch Mike and I tried to finish our painting project (Dinning Room), but no luck, cause we had to head out to a graduation party from a kid in our old ward. After the party we had to head home to prepare dinner for the elders.

Sunday was the same ol' , same ol'. There was this couple that was supposed to be here for the summer and we watched them come into Sacrament before it started, sit for a minute, and then they just got up and left. It bothered Mike a lot and me some (I had the kids) so we got their number after church and had them over for dinner. They were really young and naive about the cost of living out here so they are headed back to Orem this week. With Mike's calling it seems we have people over for dinner all the time.

Monday morning Mike got up really early to go bike riding with some guys in our ward. He met at this guys house at 6:30, crazy. Anyway, while he was gone in his 30 mile ride the kids and I did our usual Monday morning routine of cleaning the main level and washing bedding and towels. Once we were all back together we made it to the nursery to buy our veggie plants. We got 2 green zucchini and 2 tomato plants. I was feeling adventurous so we planted 2 watermelon plants as well. Hopefully they come out ;p After we got those planted we planted flowers for my hanging baskets out front...I think I am starting to be my mom. We had a BBQ at the Bowen's, whom we love, and the food was wonderful. I am fully convinced that Brett should quit his day job and become a chef. The meat for the fajitas was P-E-R-F-E-C-T. Oh so tender and juicy and flavorful. Anyway, it was great company, and a great weekend with the family.

I am very grateful for the troops that we have that are supporting us and our freedom, and I am honored to know some personally. My Dad and my father in-law, along with an aunt and 2 uncles, my brother and 2 brother in-laws. I will be eternally grateful to those who have lost their lives for our country and for me and my family that we may have the freedoms and liberties we have. Thank You!

These are some random pictures of the kids. This just goes to show I don't need to by my kids any toys. They went down to the basement and emptied out all of my wrapping paper and played in this thing for about 2 hours. They wheeled each other around the house and then read books in it.

This one is to show what happens in our house if you fall asleep other than in your bed. Mordecai fell asleep on the floor about 5:30, usually not OK but we were going to have a late night, and Emily plastered him with some stickers. You can't see or count them, but he had about 25 on him. Poor little kids was tired and slept through it a
